More than a hundred of them, every year, become suddenly orphaned after their mother is murdered by their father, sometimes before their eyes. Words fail to describe the abyss into which these children are thrown after such a "psychological tsunami" . The absence of a real, lasting system to keep them safe is unspeakable, as is the lack of psychological care, the unthinkable impossibility of returning home to get a comfort blanket, a health record or a school bag... Child welfare services (ASE) lack discernment, they almost systematically separate siblings, which amounts to a second trauma for these children, when they do not entrust them to disastrous homes or abusive families.

"It was while making the documentary Vivante(s) on femicides in 2024 ," Claire Lajeunie explains to Le Monde , "that I understood that this subject was a blind spot. It was absolutely necessary to make a sequel to highlight these children who were twice sacrificed." If things have changed very recently, the documentary says, it is thanks to the work of victims' associations, their lawyers, and their families, who have also lost a loved one. The stories of these children, now adults, are heartbreaking and revolting.
